I'm on a vacation, that's why I haven't updated my blog lately. Most of my friends know that I got married in March and the hubs and I never had any celebration after our wedding, so we decided to have our late honeymoon in October. I thought it will never happen 'coz I just got a job last month and usually they don't give you any time off from work. Miraculously, they never gave me a hard time and approved my request right away. I was overjoyed! A week in Vegas, yeah!
We arrived in Vegas last Wednesday via Chicago. We were supposed to meet my Aunt (my mom's sister) and her family in Chicago, but we only changed gates and never left the terminal, so it was impossible to see them with the limited time we have at the airport. It was so unfortunate 'coz I wanted them to meet Tim and give them a hug, since I haven't seen my Uncle for more than 10 years and I only saw my Aunt and my cousin when I arrived in Chicago last January. She even told me she baked me cookies, but I never got to taste them 'coz we never got the chance to meet them. I do hope I can see them again soon. All I can say about Chicago airport though is that most of the people who work there are all rude. I'm used to how nice most people in Orlando are- maybe 'coz of the existence of Disney and other theme parks, but Chicago? Wow, people who work in their airport have abrasive personalities! I told my husband I will never consider moving to Chicago because I have no plans of dealing with grumpy people everyday. 3 out of 3 people we approached that day had 0% customer service. I'm not saying Orlando is a perfect city to live in, 'coz it has a lot of downsides too, but we were never treated poorly at the airport. The personnel at the check in counter even helped us out with the step by step procedure of the boarding process. I remember back in January, when I was about to board on my connecting flight to Orlando from Chicago, the lady at the check-in counter was grumpy as hell too! Good thing my Aunt was there to help me figure out how the check-in process work, 'coz if I was on my own I would've been in a state of total panic with how I was treated. I guess every city will always have its good and bad side. I'm glad the city I live in have more good memories for me to keep than bad ones.
Back to regular programming. I wish I was able to take a picture of the Vegas skyline 'coz it was really pretty! Our plane was on time (another miracle) and the sky cleared up as we approached Vegas, so we were able to see the whole city that night. It was breathtaking.
It was easy to get out of the airport 'coz they have shuttles outside and not just cabs or limousines. We took the shuttle which was only $6.50 per person. It took us straight to our hotel and the driver gave the rest of the passengers tips on what to do in Vegas. The people who work here survive on tips, so don't forget to have a couple of dollar bills ready in your wallet before you reach the sin city.
The casino welcomed us the moment we entered the hotel- even the smell of cigarettes too! We found the registration counter and we were surprised to have a room upgrade for free! It was the best idea to book a trip on a Wednesday to avoid the craziness of the Vegas weekend crowd. We got to our room and we're glad that the whole floor was non-smoking and the room was totally clean. The only downside? It had two queen beds- on our honeymoon. LOL! I have read a couple of bad reviews on Excalibur before we got here, but with our stay, their service had been great and the room exceeded our expectations.

Free upgrade to a wide screen room with a view of Vegas (not the strip though) |
We did our little adventure after we took a little rest in our hotel room 'coz we were hungry from our trip. We've heard about the Ellis Island not-on-the menu steak for $6.99. It includes a soup/salad of your choice, steak, vegetables on the side, bread, and home made beer/rootbeer. Since Tim has already tried this menu before, we decided to try it out and do a little adventure by walking the strip. Before you do any walking along the strip, always remember that the buildings in Vegas are huge, so even if you think you can already see a certain building from where you are standing, expect a 15-30 minute walk just to get to that place. Ellis Island was supposed to be a couple of blocks from the strip, but it was more than a 30-minute walk! I was getting snippy at my husband on our first night in Vegas coz he was walking really fast (which he does all the time) and I couldn't keep up with him - that, and the fact that this EI is way out there! I was tired, hungry, and most definitely grumpy. I kept on telling Tim, that this steak better be good or else I'm throwing a fit. We finally got to the place after walking for who knows how long. To our surprise, the not on the menu steak is already $7.99 instead of $6.99. Thank inflation for it. I loved the whole meal though and the rootbeer was really good! So if you want an affordable deal, just go to Ellis Island and ask for the not on the menu steak special. I hope it's not $8.99 by the time you get to try it! :)
