If there's one thing I want to do, that's to be on my knees and pray and be thankful for all the blessing that I have received. For months, it had been my wish to work at the airport so I can start a career. I don't mind starting small, for as long as I am able to start. I applied to several different airlines and no one seemed to care. It was hard to accept at first, but I know I had to move on. So I got a part time job at one of the grocery stores her in Fl and it wasn't easy to swallow my pride. I did my job to the best that I can 'coz I believe that once you start something you must be able to finish it or at least, be good at it. My first month on the job was really challenging that I almost wanted to give up 'coz I wasn't happy with how I was treated, but hard work paid off and I was able to earn the respect and the trust of my colleagues and managers.
I still wasn't contented on just being there and making my brain cells die little by little each day. I needed growth, I needed something that will make me do more than what I can already do right now. So I decided to apply for jobs again. Just randomly searching on indeed.com every single day. I never cared about the other sites 'coz their format is making me go crazy. It's on www.indeed.com where I was able to find an opening to 3 different airlines. The first one never replied, the second one- I screwed up on the phone interview, and the third one- gave me the chance to have a personal interview.
Everything happened so fast and within 2 days from that phonecall, I was asked to go to the airport and attend an interview. I had to work from 9am-noon that day and I was already up since 7am 'coz of my everyday bus adventure. I planned everything that day and made sure that I never miss the bus that goes on every hour 'coz it will mess up my entire schedule. That day was my "ride the bus" day 'coz I realized I took 8 buses from 7am 'til 4pm. It was crazy, but I was determined to be there on time and get out of there with a smile on my face.
I got there 30 minutes early- not bad. When it was time for the interview, I was shocked at how they ask questions- straightforward, behavioral, and situational. I was caught off guard, but I gave it my best shot and related my past work experience to the questions asked. I got out of there a little confused 'coz I didn't know if I'd get the job. I was told that I should expect to hear from them in 2 weeks 'coz they are planning to fill the position by the end of the month. I thought I didn't get the job, but I still prayed and asked God that if it's really for me, it will be given to me, but if not, then I know something better will come along.
Fast forward to Monday. I missed a call and good thing I listened to my voicemail. I got a call from the airline company and they want to talk to me about the interview I had last Friday! Then today, I missed a call again from the person who interviewed me last Friday 'coz I was still on the bus. Good thing I checked my phone 'coz I thought it was my husband calling me and I just heard back from him, so I was prepared to just ignore the missed call. I checked and realized that it's from the airport! I was getting nervous and when I called the number back, I was told that the other person who was supposed to contact me yesterday was going to make me an offer. ZOMG. I almost fell on the floor. I got the job? zomg. To make it short, I DID get the job and I still can't believe that in this sucky economy, a major airline company actually hired me.
I do believe that everything happened for a reason. Without my grocery experience, no other US company will take interest in my application 'coz they have no idea about the other companies I have worked for back home. I am still grateful that the first company gave me a chance to work for them, when all the other companies just skipped my resume. They were the company that gave me a chance when no one else was willing. The experience also gave me the chance to get comfortable dealing with other cultures and learn to respond to them in a good way. I gained independence, some acquaintances, and a good reputation at work - 'coz I only whine when I get home. lol!
I hope this new job works out great for me and would give me the chance to grow and start a new career. Waiting for His perfect time really does wonders to our lives. I consider myself BLESSED.
