Green Card Approved

Orlando has been my new home since January of this year. There were major changes in my life, not only did I leave my life as a single woman behind, but I also left my family, country, and my job. I am blessed to have a wonderful husband, because I never felt that I gave up a wonderful life. I felt even happier that I married a great person with the support of my family and friends with the hopes of visiting the Philippines again soon and getting a job in this new place.

I have been a bum since I got here. It was great at first, but when you are used to working and earning your own money, sometimes - just sometimes, you would feel sorry for yourself because you can't buy the things you want. My needs are provided for, but I don't want to ask my wants from my husband even if he provides it too, because I know that there are things we need to spend money on which is the priority like bills and stuff. I have been working since I graduated from college and I sometimes feel bad for myself when I tend to become financially dependent. I can't start working until I get my green card. Going through the adjustment of status stage wasn't easy - financially and mentally. I read a lot of forums, talked to a friend who has gone through the same route and triple checked the paperwork to make sure I didn't miss anything. I was praying that I won't get an RFE or request for evidence 'coz it slows down the whole process. Week after week we would get letters from the USCIS regarding the status of our case. I was amazed at how everything went smoothly. The last letter I got was a notice that my case was transferred to California for faster processing. Then the waiting continued...

Then on June 14, 2010 we got a letter in the mail that says my Green Card application was approved!! It was approved on June 7th and I would need to wait 3 weeks or so to get my card in the mail. Boy, I was overjoyed! I was expecting to get it in 4 months and get my work permit first, but I got the real deal ahead of the work permit and I was overjoyed! All the hard work really paid off.

I thank my husband for being very supportive of me and for making me his number 1 priority, mom and my brother for being there to support me, my friends who are always there to cheer when I bring good news from my end, and my Heavenly Father for answering all my prayers.

Crafts for less

I don't really know what it is with the holiday season, but my "craftiness" usually kicks in whenever Christmas is fast approaching. It all started about a year ago when I decided to make personalized cards and gifts for my friends, family members, and colleagues. My Mom is really crafty, but I wasn't really interested in making projects when I was a lot younger, 'coz I'm just too lazy to even think about a concept. Our house in the Philippines will always be festive by October 'coz my Mom will decorate the entire place with so much attention to every detail, so that her holiday theme will flow all throughout our house. Meanwhile, I will just sit on the couch and watch TV and lounge like there's no tomorrow. I showed no interest at all, as everything was just too much for my brain cells to handle. 2012

I'm on a standstill. I feel so lost - I have lost myself into oblivion and I don't know if I can find myself again. All I see is darkness - I feel weak and hopeless. When will this agony end?  I want to be thankful for the blessings I have received, but the pain and challenges over shadows all the good things that are happening to me.  I feel like there's a dark cloud above me that just won't go away. It just sits there and I think it waits for me to feel really down and rain will just pour and wash way everything that I have left - my strength, hope, determination... everything. This feeling is killing me. When will the sun shine again? I want to quit. I can't quit. I wish I was a kid again, so I won't have to worry about grown up stuff. Growing up is hard, no one told me it is going to be easy in the first place. Who was I kidding?  I have to get out of this rut and be my strong, sure self again. This feeling is tiring.  I need that little glimmer o...

My first CVS make-up haul

One of my favorite fashion/beauty bloggers, April made me want to run out of our house at 10pm and go to CVS to check out their 75% off deal. She got a lot of make-up for less than $50! You can find her haul here:  http://aprilathena7.blogspot.com/2011/01/cvs-75-drugstore-cosmetic-sale.html . I love make-up, but I don't go for the expensive stuff. I still can't convince myself to splurge on make-up, especially that I don't really wear tons of it everyday. Since I was jealous about April's haul, I went ahead and dropped by the nearest CVS after work last Sunday, January 9th. I only got a few items 'coz the store near my place didn't really have a lot of stuff on sale. I think the 75% deal depends on which store you go to. On my first visit, I saved a total of $19.62! Then, I had to visit another store near my workplace 'coz I figured they have a wider range of choices there and I was happy that I wasn't disappointed with what I have found on the sale ...
